SOAR Teacher Training Course
How long is the Teacher Training course?
The class lasts 10 weeks and is broken into 2 parts, with assignments due at various times. However, you can work as quickly as you’d like!
Can I apply if I live outside the US or Canada?
At this time, no, we are only accepting candidates from the United States and Canada. Check back in the future for possible international SOAR opportunities.
When does the course start?
The first round of accepted students will begin class July 9, 2018. The course will be held multiple times. Future dates have yet to be determined.
What is a SOAR Workshop Hub?
The workshop hubs are cities and towns across the US and Canada where SOAR will host regular workshops. These hubs usually have established colored pencil followings and local coordinators to make these workshops happen.
Do I have to have teaching experience to join SOAR?
No! We will teach you how to teach. Any level of experience is welcome to apply! Even if you’ve never taught before, you can still join SOAR.
How much does the Teacher Training Course cost?
There are two payments due during the course. The course part one is $199 and part two is $299, for a total investment of $498.
How much will I earn per workshop?
You will be paid $1000 per 2-day workshop you teach. All travel and lodging expenses will be planned and paid for by us.
How do I become certified?
Once you’ve decided SOAR is right for you, you’ll apply here. Once accepted, you’ll complete the course and all assignments within 10 weeks. Upon successful completion, you’ll teach a private workshop that Ann will attend either live or live-streaming. If all goes well, Ann will certify you as a SOAR instructor and we'll begin booking your workshop in SOAR Hubs!
I don’t have years and years of colored pencil experience; can I still apply?
Absolutely! If you’re fairly new to colored pencil, or switched from another medium, you are still welcome to apply.
I don’t know how to create a workshop curriculum. Is that a problem?
No! That’s the beauty of the SOAR program. We handle ALL the details, including finding the students. Once you have designed your tutorial during the SOAR course, we coordinate all the workshop details. We will tell you when and where, and you just show up and teach - then get paid!
How often will I teach and how long are the workshops?
You’ll teach at least two 2-day workshops per year, but you are welcome to teach more (and we hope you do). You tell us how often you’d like to teach and we will make it happen!
As a SOAR Instructor, how will I get paid?
You will operate as an independent contractor and be issued a 1099 for income record and tax purposes.
How soon will I start earning income from teaching?
As soon as you teach your first SOAR workshop. A few months after the Teacher Training Course is complete we will schedule your first workshop and you’ll get your first paycheck. The more you teach, the more you earn!
When will the Teacher Training Program happen again?
SOAR Teacher Training course will repeat January 2019, July 2019 and January 2020.

What topics will the workshops cover?

How do I register to attend a workshop?
We're not quite there yet - stay tuned! We will begin announcing workshop dates and locations this fall.
